Students in the Wentzville School District were active participants in a variety of celebrations across Wentzville this past holiday weekend.
On Friday, January 15, the South Middle School Choir, led by Choir Director Julie Prine, sang at Senior Appreciation Day festivities at the Wentzville Community Club. The event was organized by the Wentzville Area Senior Services and included a day filled with informational seminars, food and entertainment.
The South Middle School Choir performed again on Monday, January 18 at the Wentzville celebration honoring the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Artwork honoring Dr. King was on display from a variety of Wentzville elementary and middle school students and Mayor Paul Lambi announced the winner of the Martin Luther King essay contest.
The contest was open to Timberland and Holt High School students and finalists included: Nikki McGee, Jalessa Wilson, Jenny Riley, Cristina Stanley, Scott Fritsche, Katie Krause and Julie Emmons.
Holt senior Julie Emmons took home first place and a $500 scholarship for her essay about Dr. King. All of the finalists will have their essays posted on the City of Wentzville’s website.
