The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has announced that Wentzville South Middle School is among the top ten large schools in the state in 8th grade math and science test scores.
The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) results from 2008 indicate that in science, 71.5% of the students tested at the “Advanced & Proficient” level, while in math 73.1% tested as “Advanced & Proficient.”
This is the second year in a row that Wentzville South Middle has earned this distinction.
“I’ve seen how hard our students and staff work, and our kids take the MAP testing seriously and put forth a lot of effort,” said first year Principal Scott Swift. “Former Principal Jennifer Waters did a great job of motivating everyone and we’re going to give the same effort this year and hopefully get the same great results!”
The MAP Grade-Level assessments are a series of tests that measure whether students in Missouri are meeting Grade Level Expectations. It’s one way of determining if students are learning what they need to know.
“It’s all about our students learning and creating a culture of success,” said Superintendent Dr. Terry Adams. “We have wonderful teachers and students, and these results show we are increasing student achievement and continuing to move in the right direction.”
Assessments like the MAP tests are intended to insure that Missouri students are learning, and that schools are held accountable for providing children with the best education possible.
