An anonymous donor has given $500,000 to the Wentzville School District to be used for technology to help District students. “The donor was obviously very generous, and also very clear about where the money should go,” said Superintendent Dr. terry Adams. “The donor wants the money to be spent on technology to aid in student instruction, so we came up with a list of suggestions that was wholeheartedly endorsed by our donor.”
According to WSD Director of Technology Rich Wilson, the money from the donation will be spent on three main initiatives. First, an additional 209 SMART boards will be installed in District classrooms. There will be 31 for the elementary schools, and that would complete the District plan to have SMART boards in every kindergarten through 5th grade classroom. Core classrooms at the three middle schools will get 118 additional SMART boards, and 60 will go to the two high schools.
The second part of the donation will be an initial investment into digital ebooks. The District library management system has a digital “bookshelf” feature for electronic books and resources. Students and staff can access these materials from any computer, either at school or at home.
The third investment will be 400 mobile computing devices (Android tablets) with approximately 25 going to every school in the District. The tablets would be available for students to checkout, and they would be able to use the mobile devices to read ebooks or to use other online resources.
“With this gift, we have the opportunity to provide more technical resources for our students,” said Wilson. “In addition, it will allow us to allocate our existing funds into other innovative and creative technologies throughout the District.”
