WMS Character Carnival gives back to community

The third annual Character Carnival at Wentzville Middle School attracted hundreds of parents and students as well as dozens of organizations interested in giving back to the community.
“It’s a fantastic event,” said Principal Dr. Nathan Tyson. “Agencies from the surrounding area have the opportunity to connect with our families, and our students and parents love it.”
While students were obviously interested in the St. Louis County police helicopter, the Wentzville fire truck, or the face painting and bounce houses, they also took time to build character and give back to the community.
Operation Food Search collected food and personal hygiene donations, students tie-dyed cloth squares that will be quilted into baby quilts for the Crisis Nursery, made yarn dolls that will be donated to area children’s organizations, and wrote “Thank You” cards for the men and women serving in the military.
Bailey, a seventh grader, said “It feels good to know you’re helping people, and there is also a lot of information about groups I’m interested in, like 4-H.”
“Each year it just gets bigger and better,” said counselor and organizer Becky James. “A lot of community organizations and school clubs participate, and there are plenty of resources that our families can use.”
