Timberland’s Nelson wins award in Nashville

Timberland High School senior Zachary Nelson represented the state of Missouri at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee on July 14-17, 2010.

Competing in FBLA’s national awards program, Zach vied for top honors in Accounting II against state representatives from across the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Guam, the Cayman Islands, and the Department of Defense schools worldwide. At the Awards of Excellence closing program, it was announced that Zach earned 9th place in the nation in the Accounting II event.

The competition is part of a program sponsored annually by FBLA, a professional association for students pursuing business careers. Individuals, local chapters, and state teams compete in over 50 events representing a range of business, career, and leadership development activities. The winners of these prestigious awards are selected from FBLA’s over 210,000 members, and have won regional and state competitions to qualify for the national awards program. The delegates to the 58th annual conference elected national student officers and attended business and leadership workshops in addition to competing in business and career skill events.

FBLA is a nonprofit organization that prepared students for careers in business and business education. Its mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. Zach plans to major in mathematics and minor in statistics in college. In addition to being a member of FBLA, he is Timberland’s Senior Class Treasurer, a member of the National Honor Society and currently holds a GPA of 4.19.
