Timberland and Holt join forces for “Pink Night”

Wentzville, MO
Students from Timberland and Holt High Schools in the Wentzville School District are joining forces in order to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
The annual basketball game is a cross town rivalry that’s scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 16 at Holt’s gymnasium between both the girls’ and boys’ varsity teams, and has been dubbed “Pink Night.”
There will be pre-game, half-time and post-game activities that the Student Councils from both schools have organized. The gym will be decorated with pink balloons, streamers and posters, pink t-shirts will be sold, and a variety of raffles will go on throughout the evening.
The Wentzville Fire Department will also be on hand with their pink fire suits and there will be a ceremonial tip-off at the start of each game done by a breast cancer survivor.
The idea for the fundraiser came from Timberland student council member Shelby Zytko, a junior who has lost loved ones to the disease and wanted to involve as many people as possible in the fundraising effort.
“What better way than at the rivalry basketball game, where two armies can unite to fight one battle!” Zytko said.
Holt’s Student Council Advisor Erin Chase is pleased with the community’s support and the joint effort between the two high schools. “The Student Council is always looking for ways to get involved and make an impact in the community and school. Breast cancer has affected so many of our students and staff that we wanted to do something to help fight this deadly disease.”
The girls are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will start at approximately 7:00 p.m. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
