The late Rosa M. Westermeier, a longtime Wentzville resident, has left approximately $290,000 to the Wentzville School District. Her will specified that the money be used to fund scholarships for Wentzville students.

The Wentzville Board of Education voted unanimously to transfer the full amount of the donation to the Wentzville Schools Foundation, a non-profit organization. The Wentzville Schools Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to develop community support for public education and for the children and youth in the Wentzville R-IV School District.

Every year the Foundation gives thousands of dollars worth of mini-grants to district teachers to encourage excellence through innovative teaching and learning, and also gives thousands of dollars worth of scholarships to the graduating seniors of the district. The Foundation is funded primarily through donations and annual fundraising efforts like the Foundation Trivia Night and the Wentzville Rotary 5K Run/Walk.

“This donation from the estate of Mrs. Westermeier is truly a wonderful and generous gift,” said Superintendent Terry Adams. “This windfall will fund scholarships that can help a lot of our graduates afford college this year, and for many years to come.”

The Foundation has formed a committee to determine the eligibility criteria, and district seniors will be able to apply for the new scholarships beginning in February.
