Ten schools in the Wentzville School District have held food drives this school year to help stock the shelves at Operation Food Search (OFS). As a group, these schools have collected more than ten tons of food items to help needy local families!
Frontier Middle School led the way again this year by collecting over 7,000 individual items. Other schools participating in the food drive included Boone Trail, Crossroads, Discovery Ridge, Green Tree, Lakeview, Peine Ridge, Prairie View, Wentzville South Middle School and Holt High School.
“We have a great partnership with the Wentzville School District, the students and staff work so hard to make this happen,” said Karen Gladieux, Community Relations Director of OFS. “It’s wonderful that these schools are able to collect more food items every year, because unfortunately in this economy we need it to help more families every year.”
Food drives are a critical source of non-perishable food for OFS. Not only do they generate important canned food, dry goods, and personal care items, they also increase awareness about the problem of hunger in our community. Each month, OFS distributes more than two million pounds of food and household items to more than 150 community agencies in the bi-state region that in turn feed more than 120,000 people every single month. Nearly half of the recipients are children.
