Holt Thespians advance to state

Holt High School was named the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) District 4 One-Act Play Champions on Saturday, March 14 at Clayton High School.
District 4 includes St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County and Jefferson City High Schools. Twenty-two high schools competed at the tournament in nine individual performance events, one-act plays, and Readers Theater performances.
The winning Holt High School production of Chicken Bones for the Teenage Soup features Andrew Buell, Sam Disney, Bethany Ellerbrook, Tina Kuhlman, Drew Maestas, Wendi Milhous, Derek Read, Ali Thurwachter, Casey Tompkins and Brenna Whitehurst. Holt’s one-act play will represent the St. Louis District in the MSHSAA State Speech Tournament on April 24 and 25.
In addition to the one-act victory, four Holt students were finalists in the nine individual events. Bethany Ellerbrook placed eighth in dramatic interpretation of literature, and Chelsea Tossing placed fourth in prose reading.
Ali Thurwachter was crowned St. Louis District Champion in poetry reading, and Bethany Ellerbrook was named St. Louis District Champion in humorous interpretation of literature. Both Ali and Bethany will be representing the St. Louis District in the state speech tournament.
