The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) have selected Holt High School as a 5-Star Leadership School.  This program expands MSHSAA’s long-standing “Leadership School Program” to encourage schools to become even more active in regard to sportsmanship, character education, and citizenship.

“From the very beginning of the school year we set this as one of our goals that we really wanted to achieve,” said Principal John Waters. “It took a lot of effort on the part of our students, our staff, and or parents. Our Activities Director Frank Gentile also worked very hard to make this happen, and I’m very proud of all of them.”  There are five requirements to win the award annually:

        1. Attend MSHSAA Sportsmanship Summit
        2. Qualify as a MSHSAA Leadership School
        3.  Head Coaches of all activities complete NAIA Online Training
        4. Attendance at MIAAA Spring Conference
        5. Train parents, participants and coaches using “Champions of Character” DVD

Seventeen MSHSAA junior and senior high schools have fully qualified to be recognized as 5-Star Leadership Schools for the 2010-11 school year and will receive their personalized banner at the 2011 MSHSAA Sportsmanship Summit on August 13 in Columbia.
