Accident causes serious injuries for 12-year-old

A Thurs. night accident in Wentzville sent five to the hospital. The accident occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Route A.

A 2006 Mazda 3, driven by Jamie L. Ponder, 20, of Lake Saint Louis was traveling westbound on Route A and failed to stop at a red light. A 1993 Mercury Tracer, driven by Nickole D. Frank, 22, of Wright City was heading eastbound on Route A and attempted to make a left turn onto Mexico Road.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the front of the Mazda struck the front of the Mercury Tracer. Both vehicles were totaled.

Ponder was not wearing a seat belt, sustained minor injuries and was taken by St. Charles County Ambulance to St. Joseph East Hospital in St. Charles; Frank was wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate injuries and was taken by St. Charles County Ambulance to St. Joseph East Hospital.

A 12-year-old girl from Wentzville was riding with Frank. The girl was taken with serious injuries to St. Joseph Hospital East in St. Charles. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Two other occupants riding with Frank were: Corey Sanchez, 20 and Jesse Sanchez, 22, both of Wentzville. Both were taken with minor injuries to St. Joseph East Hospital in St. Charles and both were wearing seat belts.
