To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the opening of Quail Ridge Park, the St. Charles County Parks Department has several festivities planned from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the 250-acre facility in Wentzville. (See event schedule which follows this article.)

The event kicks off at 1 p.m., with a private reception to recognize individuals who donated land for future parks, officials responsible for the department’s growth, and other community leaders. During this reception, St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann, St. Charles County Council Chairman John White, St. Charles County Parks Director Bettie Yahn-Kramer, and former County Executive Joe Ortwerth will provide insight into the past, present and future of the department.

At 2 p.m., the event opens to the public with activities that include music, food and fun. Among the activities available at this family-friendly event will be a Kids Area (featuring Silly Jilly the clown and Outback Ed with his reptiles), exhibits featuring park partners such as Gateway Off-Road Cyclists, RiverCity Flyers Disc Golf Club, the Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri and the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center; a fishing derby; a nature education area; and a demonstration by skateboarders from the Youth Activity Park.

From 2 to 5 p.m., the National Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame Museum will host an open house at their facility near Shelter 5 within the park. Also offered will be displays featuring emergency vehicles from the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department, Wentzville Fire Protection District, and St. Charles County Park Rangers; a hot air balloon; and the Sheriff’s Department helicopter. In addition to those free activities, the Wentzville VFW Post 5327, the Quail Ridge Horseshoe Club, and Kona Ice will also offer food and beverage booths as a fundraiser.

Quail Ridge Park is located at 5501 Quail Ridge Parkway, near the intersection of Interstate 70 and Interstate 64 (Highway 40/61). From St. Charles, take I-70 west to the I-64 interchange and go south (left). Continue on I-64 to the first exit (Prospect Road) and turn right onto Prospect. Turn at the first right (Quail Ridge Parkway/Duello Road) and continue for ½-mile to the park entrance. The celebration will be centered at the Quail Ridge Lodge.

After opening in July 2000, Quail Ridge Park has developed into one of St. Charles County’s prized treasures. The 250-acre park features an indoor lodge, group and individual picnic shelters, walking/bicycle trails, fishing lakes, an 18-hole disc golf course, and an Off-Leash Dog Area. The park also serves as home to the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association Hall of Fame Museum and features several courts available for public use.
