The Duello Elementary Show Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Oakley Bowen, sang The National Anthem at Busch Stadium before the Cardinals hosted the Dodgers on Wednesday, July 29.
The 50 students who make up the choir got the “red carpet” treatment and the chance to meet Fredbird before the performance. Standing on the Busch Stadium turf and singing “The Star Spangled Banner” in front of 40,000 people is an experience these elementary students won’t soon forget.
“It was amazing when I walked out onto the field, I couldn’t believe I was actually out there,” said fifth grader Lexie Maitland. “I think we did pretty good, because we got a lot of applause!”
The Duello Show Choir has established a quality reputation and performs at various events around the metro area.
“I think it’s a real honor for these students and our school to be asked to perform here, said Dr. Kathy Fisher, the Duello Principal. “We are very proud of our kids, and I think this has been a very fun and positive learning experience for all of them.” The students and their families also attended the game after the performance, and those who stayed for all 15 innings enjoyed the Cardinal victory!
