The video footage from Haiti’s disaster is heart-wrenching. Many local residents want to respond with a personal touch. They just don’t know how.

Through Sunday, Jan. 31, the Wentzville United Methodist Church is serving as a drop site for disaster relief kits to Haiti.

Anyone in the community may contribute by making one or more of the following kits and taking it to the Wentzville United Methodist Church at 725 Wall Street anytime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The church will also be open on Sunday between 8 a.m. until noon.

This method of donation is hands-on and a great way to include children in the relief effort.

Health Kits ($10 value). Seal the following items in a one-gallon, Ziploc-type bag:

Layette Kits ($40 value). All items must be new and under 12 months in size. Bundle items inside one receiving blanket and secure with diaper pins.

IMA Medicine Box ($85 value). Please follow these guidelines for donations, which should be new products with unbroken seals and expiration dates of 18 months (April 2012) or longer. Generic products are welcome! Place all items in a box and label “IMA Medicine BOX.”

Please include only one complete kit per box.

There are many ways to donate financially, of course, and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is also taking donations at their website www.gbgm-umc.org.
