Accident causes serious injury for O’Fallon man

On Monday at about 7:50 p.m., Scott D. Sturgis, 41, of O’Fallon, was heading westbound, in a 1994 Ford Thunderbird, on Interstate 70 east of Mid Rivers Mall Drive.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sturgis swerved to avoid a tractor trailer changing lanes. Sturgis lost control of the vehicle and slid into the side of a 2003 Freightliner being driven by Gregoire J. Israel, 36 of Booneville, Indiana.
Sturgis suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. John’s Hospital by Arch Rescue Helicopter. Israel was wearing a seatbelt. It is unknown whether Sturgis was wearing one.
