An accident on Interstate 70 during Friday afternoon’s rush hour traffic involved four cars and sent one driver to the hospital.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at about 4:25 p.m., three vehicles were stopped in traffic, heading westbound on I-70, just east of Spencer Road.

Those stopped were: Mary M. Lavy, 45, of O’Fallon, driving a 2007 Pontiac; Paul J. Krutek, 46, of O’Fallon, driving a 2004 Volvo S80; Glenn M. Battas, 50, of O’Fallon, driving a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer.

Timothy J. Strayhorn, 47, of Troy was driving a 1998 Honda Accord and came up behind the stopped cars, but failed to stop in time. Strayhorn’s Accord struck the rear of the Chevrolet Blazer.

The Chevrolet Blazer was pushed into the rear of the Volvo. Then, the Volvo was pushed into the rear of the Pontiac.

All vehicles came to rest on the inside median against the concrete wall.

Battas sustained minor injuries and was transported to Barnes Hospital in St. Peters by St. Charles County Ambulance.

All drivers were wearing seat belts.
