Victim of car clouting helps catch suspects
August 19, 2010
St. Peters, MO
Two suspects are in custody after a series of car cloutings in the St. Peters area.
The suspects are identified as:
Chad D. Sneed, a 19-year-old white male who resides in the 400 block of Mannington Drive in St. Peters; and Mitchell Stenger, a 19-year-old white male who resides in the first block of Westerly Court in St. Peters.
Sneed and Stenger are accused of breaking into multiple unlocked vehicles in the Country Crossing Estates Neighborhood during the early morning hours of August 17, 2010.
The suspects got away with several GPS units and a .38 revolver handgun. One of the victims of the theft found his GPS unit advertised for sale on a popular website and notified the St. Peters Police. A St. Peters Detective made arrangements to meet Sneed to buy the stolen GPS unit.
Once it was verified, the item was the stolen GPS unit, Sneed was taken into custody. After a thorough investigation, Stenger was identified as a suspect and arrested without incident. Most of the stolen items, including the revolver, were recovered and have been returned to the original owners.
Detectives have recovered several items that were possibly stolen as well, but have not yet been reported. Stenger was Released Pending Application of Warrants with the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Sneed was charged with Theft of a Firearm, a Class C Felony, and is currently being held at St. Charles County Corrections on a $20,000 bond, no 10% authorized. Any additional victims are asked to e-mail Detective David Beckman at dbeckman@stpetersmo.net or call him at 636-278-2244 extension 3530.
