Upcoming creek walks to study storm water system
April 14, 2011
St. Peters, MO
Members of an engineering design team and City of St. Peters staff will be walking along creeks for the next several weeks as St. Peters takes its first step toward a comprehensive study of our community’s storm water system.
Thanks to a no-tax-increase storm water bond issue passed by St. Peters voters in August 2010, the City of St. Peters is developing a citywide storm water watershed master plan that will help with the planning of future storm water management projects. St. Peters has contracted with engineering firm Black & Veatch to develop this plan, which includes modeling the flow characteristics of creeks and the effectiveness of the detention basins with our watershed, evaluating the stability of stream banks, and providing recommendations for improving water quality and reducing flooding.
Engineers will walk in creeks and along the stream banks to collect data, make field measurements and take photographs. This work will take place in creeks throughout St. Peters, and it’s expected to last through the end of May.
