The years 2009 and 2010 are important ones for the City of St. Peters.

In 2009, the city will celebrate 50 years as a “city.” In 1959, the voters approved a ballot measure to become a city of the Fourth Class under Missouri statutes, a move which allowed St. Peters to issue bonds and prepare for growth.

In 2010, the city will celebrate 100 years as a “town.” In 1910, the City of St. Peters incorporated as a town and was allowed to elect its own town board.

The city is recognizing these important milestones with a two-year series of festivities called Celebrate St. Peters.

Included in the celebration will be: movies and concerts at the City Centre Outdoor Amphitheater, golf tournaments at St. Peters Golf Course, hockey invitationals at the Rec-Plex, Olde Tyme Picnic fireworks, and a senior fair.

The Historical Committee is readying a coffee table book all about the history of St. Peters and the Neighborhoods Committee is putting together a commemorative cookbook. Funds from cookbook sales will be used for anniversary festivities.

The celebration will conclude with a large-scale event in October 2010 in the new Lakeside 370 Park and may become an annual event at the park.
