St. Peters residents to receive free trash service
November 23, 2010
St. Peters, MO
St. Peters residents are about to receive their fifth annual installment of four months of FREE trash service. This benefit is made possible from the sale of the Lakeside 370 property in 2006 to the partnership of Duke Realty, Gundaker Commercial Group, and Kaplan Development.
Under a Capital Plan developed in 2006, nearly 16,000 residential trash customers will receive four months of FREE trash service each year until at least 2015, which at current rates is a savings for each household of $75 per year. The FREE trash service will be reflected on utility bills for the December-March billing cycles.
Another way you can see your trash bill reduced is through recycling. St. Peters allows all residents to recycle paper, cans, plastic, glass, and cardboard at the City’s recycling facility, Recycle City, 131 Ecology Drive or with the blue recycle bags provided to each home. These products are sold to companies who recycle them into new and useful products.
St. Peters residents can place yard waste at the curb weekly for pickup or bring it to the City’s Earth Centre. The yard waste is recycled into compost and mulch.
The more items pulled from the trash through recycling translates to reduced landfill tipping fees that the City must pay to get rid of your trash. This keeps your trash costs low and also reduces your Carbon footprint, helping the environment.
“We encourage everyone to recycle. Not only because it’s the right thing to do, but when you combine the revenue we receive from selling the recycled products with the reduced tipping fees because there is less to be put in the landfill, it equals big savings to our residents,” said St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano.
