Rec-Plex synchronized skaters go national

The St. Peters Figure Skating Association’s Synchro St. Louis Diamond Edges have qualified to compete in the 2011 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships. This U.S. Figure Skating (USFS) national event will take place March 2-5 in Ontario, Calif.

The Junior-level Diamond Edges synchronized skating team, which trains at the St. Peters Rec-Plex, earned a trip to the national championship with a Bronze medal performance at the U.S. Figure Skating 2011 Midwestern and Pacific Coast Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships, Feb. 3-5, in Rochester, Minn. The Junior level consists of skaters ages 12 to 19.

“This is only the second time the St. Peters Figure Skating Association has had a team qualify for the U.S. Championships, and it's the highest-level team to ever qualify from the state of Missouri,” said Diamond Edges coach Heather Hyatt.

The following skaters represent the Rec-Plex’s Diamond Edges: Julie Brown, 15, St. Charles, St. Charles West High School; Claire Chipley, 14, St. Peters, All Saints School; Samantha Emrich, 15, St. Charles, Francis Howell High School; Kelsey Farewell, 16, St. Peters, Fort Zumwalt East High School; Melissa Felps, 18, St. Peters, Francis Howell Central High School; Ashley Garrett, 15, St. Peters, Lutheran High School; Jessica Godar, 17, St. Peters, Fort Zumwalt South High School; Erica Grogg, 18, St. Peters, Francis Howell Central High School; Loren Hasse, 15, Lake St. Louis, Timberland High School; Kristin James, 16, O'Fallon, Fort Zumwalt West High School; Sara Norsen, 13, St. Charles, Visitation Academy; Alexandra Porter, 17, St. Charles, St. Charles West High School; Elena Randazzo, 16, St. Charles, Villa Duchesne; Lauren Rotondo, 16, St. Charles, Francis Howell Central High School; Tiffany Sunderland, 15, St. Peters, Francis Howell High School; and Paige Waltrip, 16. St. Charles, Francis Howell High School.

The Diamond Edges are coached by Hyatt and Kelly Haynes.
