Car chase originates with robbery in St. Peters
January 18, 2008
St. Peters, MO
Last night, at about 4:40 p.m., a man identified as Jason W. Conger, 30, from O’Fallon MO, walked inside the St. Peters Medicine Shoppe at 7833 Mexico Road. He waited for all the customers to leave, displayed a firearm and demanded a specific type of narcotic from the clerk.
When the clerk told him they didn’t have that type of narcotic, the man jumped over the counter. The clerk then gave him less than 20 pills of a different type of narcotic. The suspect fled in a silver Chrysler 300. St. Peters Police followed.
The man led police on a car chase that sometimes reached speeds in excess of 80 mph. He was pursued by law enforcement of various jurisdictions. He was also tracked by a helicopter.
The suspect drove on the shoulder of the road to pass other vehicles. The chase came to a slow-down in Fort Bellefountaine Park at about 5:30 p.m. Before stopping the vehicle, the suspect drove off the park’s roadway and in between trees.
During the chase, the suspect used his cell phone to talk to officials. There are reports that those conversations consisted of talks of suicide, but St. Peters Police could not confirm this. The chase ended at about 5:40 p.m.
Conger was taken into custody by St. Peters Police. This afternoon, he will be transported to the St. Charles County Jail. Conger has been charged with first degree robbery and armed criminal action. The court has set a cash bond of $75,000, 10% is not authorized.
No injuries were reported from neither the robbery nor the car chase.
