Central County Fire and Rescue units were sent to Lutheran High School of St. Charles County at 5100 Mexico Road in St. Peters on Thursday morning for a report of fire in the boys’ locker room.

According to Assistant Chief Steve Brown of Central County Fire and Rescue, the call came in at 11:49 a.m.

Brown said the situation was given a first alarm response, calling five fire units to the school. He said this was a typical response used for commercial facilities.

Brown said the fire occurred when “one or more towels were stuffed into a locker and set on fire.” Damages were contained to the contents of the locker.

Students evacuated the school and were allowed to return at about 12:25 p.m.

The person responsible for setting the fire is unknown. According to Melissa Doss of the St. Peters Police Department, there are a “couple hundred” suspects and the incident is under investigation.

Our voice mail message to Lutheran High School has not yet been returned.
