St. Peters
St. Peters Police caught two males stealing copper from Didion-Orf Recycling on Nov. 18 at 4:30 a.m. A St. Peters Police Officer was checking the lot of Lou Fusz at 5120 I-70 Service Road North, when he noticed a white 2000 Chevy S-10 Truck parked on the lot next to newer model trucks on the west side. The officer conducted a record check of the Missouri license plates on the vehicle and it returned to an address in Ironton, Missouri.
The officer checked the bed of the unoccupied truck and saw a large amount of copper. He knew the Didion-Orf Recycling Plant was approximately ΒΌ mile away and has recently been having problems with unknown person(s) stealing product from their lot.
The officer sat with the vehicle for over an hour until the owner of the vehicle and his passenger returned to the lot. The owner was identified as Joe A. Love, 21, from Troy, Missouri. The passenger was identified as Christopher D. Sobczak, 21, of Florissant, Missouri.
Love and Sobczak were arrested after a short foot pursuit. The two have been charged with Felony Stealing and are being held at St. Charles County Jail on a $2,000 bond. The truck contained 488 pounds of copper, worth over $700.
