Banish cabin fever at upcoming Fitness Fest

Is winter weather putting the freeze on fun and exercise? “Get away” to a tropical location, right in your own backyard. Come to the climate-controlled St. Peters Rec-Plex during the Rec-Plex Fitness Fest on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011. Our doors will be open for FREE from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Try all of the Rec-Plex’s state-of-the-art facilities, from the expansive cardio fitness and weight training areas to swimming, ice skating, volleyball, basketball, and more. A wide variety of group fitness classes also will be available for FREE during Fitness Fest, including a variety of Aerobics, Kettlebell, 50+ Senior Exercise, Fencing and even Belly Dancing.
Plus, anyone who joins the Rec-Plex during Fitness Fest gets the Baker’s Dozen Deal—new annual Rec-Plex members and GOLD PLUS members get a 13th month for FREE.
For families who want to check out the Rec-Plex on a “trial basis,” Fitness Fest also offers a chance to purchase a Family Quick Start Pass good for 3 months. This is a great way to try out the Rec-Plex without making a yearlong commitment. The Family Quick Start Pass costs just $150. If you decide to commit to an annual pass or GOLD PLUS membership, that fee can count toward the cost of your new pass. (Individual Quick Start Passes are available year-round.)
Rec-Plex annual members get full access to the Rec-Plex and its facilities, plus members can sign up for many monthly aerobics classes for free. GOLD PLUS members get these same advantages plus can sign up for many more free classes and programs.
City of St. Charles residents now get St. Peters resident rates to join the Rec-Plex, thanks to a parks agreement between the cities of St. Peters and St. Charles. This special agreement for City of St. Charles residents includes rates for the Rec-Plex Annual Pass and GOLD PLUS membership as well as for daily admission to the Rec-Plex. (In return, St. Peters residents with a Resident Privilege Card receive special resident rates and opportunities at St. Charles pools.)
Here is a list of FREE Fitness Fest activities on Saturday, Jan. 22:
• Fitness facilities, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (cardio room, weight training room and indoor track, for ages 16 and up)
• Volleyball, 9 a.m.-noon
• Basketball, noon-3 p.m.
• Swimming, noon-3 p.m., (large heated family leisure pool with water play features, large whirlpool/current channel, and 130-foot waterslide, adult lap swimming, spa and sauna)
• Ice skating, 12:30-3 p.m. (NHL-size Rec-Plex North ice arena, includes FREE skate rental)
• FREE group fitness classes and more throughout the event.
• FREE Tot Drop babysitting (advance reservations requested).
• Vendor booths, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
• Fitness Assessments, beginning at 9:30 a.m., FREE to Rec-Plex passholders (including Fitness Fest sign-ups). The cost is $25 for the general public. Advance registration is requested.
Also, for $5 per person, Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital will screen total cholesterol and HDL from 9 a.m.-noon during Fitness Fest. No fasting is required.
