In a news release on Friday, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources encouraged Missourians to go easy on fuel usage. To save money and fuel, the department suggests using transit services such as MetroBus, MetroLink and OATS, carpooling, and vacationing closer to home.
The release stated that the average price of gasoline in Missouri, as of May 5, was $3.44 a gallon, up 8 percent from a month ago and 17 percent from a year ago according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Energy Center’s bi-weekly Energy Bulletin.
These fuel prices are a reflection of crude oil prices, which often increase daily. On Wednesday, crude oil prices settled at $123.53 a barrel, up 11 percent over last month and 101 percent over the same time period in 2007.
The Department of Natural Resources has issued a publication called Saving Green on Gasoline, which encourages residents to save money while conserving fuel.
