One of St. Charles County’s most popular park programs returns for its third year. The Passport to St. Charles County Parks Walk program offers a free and relaxing way to tour St. Charles County’s parks and to learn about their features. All walks will begin with orientation at 9 a.m. and are expected to last approximately two hours.

Walks are planned at six current and one future St. Charles County parks from March through September.

On March 13, the program will explore the historical amenities and natural surroundings of Indian Camp Creek Park.

Then, the program will examine the camping and birding opportunities at Klondike Park on April 10.

On May 8, the walk will focus on the farming heritage and astronomy viewing area at Broemmelsiek Park.

Next, the June 12 walk will present the riverside ecosystem and birding opportunities found within the Louis H. Bangert Memorial Wildlife Area.

To beat the summer heat, a walk on July 10 will explore the shaded forests of Matson Hill Park.

The waterways, wildlife, and woodlands of Quail Ridge Park will be the highlights of the walk on Aug. 14.

A walk through Towne Park, which is not yet open to the public, will conclude the program for the year on Sept. 11.

Participants in these guided hikes will receive their own “passport” that will be used to collect stamps that signify the completion of a walk. Those who participate in at least four Passport Walks will earn a park water bottle. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, wear comfortable walking shoes and bring their own supplies (i.e.—water, binoculars, cameras, insect repellent, etc.).

To participate in the free walks or for directions to these parks, guests should pre-register online at www.stccparks.org or call 636-949-7535, although day-of registrations will be accepted.

Formed in 1997 by the citizens of St. Charles County, the Parks Department currently operates eight parks within its system—with several additional properties under development. Located throughout St. Charles County, these regional parks offer open natural areas, an extensive trail system, picnic shelters, camping sites, special events facilities, fishing lakes, and much more.

For information on the St. Charles County Parks Department, please call 636-949-7535 or visit www.stccparks.org.
