St. Charles County, MO
The St. Charles County Parks Department seeks volunteers interested in assisting with the operations of upcoming special events, developing amenities for future parks, and removing invasive plant species from a “park-in-reserve.”
Program and event volunteers will help with registration, presentation and logistics during events such as the Wild in the Woods Trail Run Series (runs scheduled Oct. 2, Oct. 23, and Nov. 6), Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day on Oct. 9, and the Youth Activity Park’s Night of Fright Halloween festivities on Oct. 30. Event volunteers are typically asked to work three- to four-hour sessions, with instructional training provided on-site the day of the event. For information on how to assist with these or any of the Department’s other upcoming programs, please contact Doug Bolnick at 636-949-7535 or by email at parks@sccmo.org.
Additional volunteer assistance is requested to improve park areas that are currently under development. On Oct. 23 (8:30 a.m.), the Forestry division seeks help in planting trees and wildlife habitat at Towne Park (located along Highway 61 at Farris Road, approximately six miles north of Wentzville). Park staff and volunteers will improve trails at Matson Hill Park on Dec. 4 and Dec. 11 (9 a.m.). These activities will begin with a safety and equipment-use seminar that must be attended by all participants. Equipment will be provided, but participants are asked to bring comfortable and sturdy shoes, clothes appropriate for the weather, work gloves and water. Those interested in volunteering at any of these activities should call 636-949-7535 for registration information and directions.
Volunteers are also requested for efforts to eradicate invasive plant species from the future Spring Bend Park site. The third annual Great Honeysuckle Round-up is planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 6, in cooperation with the Harvester/Mid Rivers Optimist Club and a Community Stewardship Grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation. The goal of this volunteer event is to remove bush honeysuckle and other invasive plants from the “park in reserve,” which is located near the intersection of Highway 364 (Page Avenue Extension) and Upper Bottom Road. Equipment will be provided, but participants are asked to bring comfortable and sturdy shoes, clothes appropriate for the weather, work gloves and water. Those interested in joining this activity must register in advance by calling 636-949-7535.
