A new tool on the Lincoln County R-III School District’s website empowers patrons to have the knowledge of how Proposition 1 impacts them. The School District launched an online property tax calculator to help clarify how much in additional taxes a patron would have on their tax bill if the proposal passes in April. Community Relations Specialist April Bryant said the tax tool was created out of necessity.
“The tax calculator takes the mystery out of ‘what’s this going to cost me?’ Now, voters can find out exactly how it impacts taxes on their business, farm, home and even their personal property. Every voter needs to know this information before heading to the polls,” she said.
R-III’s online property tax calculator is user-friendly and only requires patrons to do one thing – enter a number. Bryant said the number needed can be found on tax statements and has provided examples on the District’s website – www.troy.k12.mo.us. The calculator will give R-III patrons the annual and monthly increase if Proposition 1 is successful.
The Lincoln County R-II School District is presenting voters with Proposition 1 on April 5, 2011. The request is for a 75-cent increase in the operating levy, which equals less than $15 a month for the average homeowner in the District. Bryant believes the calculator will be a powerful education tool for voters.
“The calculator will tell you what it will cost if Proposition 1 passes. Then, voters can decide whether or not they can afford it based on fact. The only thing the online tax calculator can’t do is tell voters what it will cost if Proposition 1 fails.”
