Fire units respond to post office

Approximately 11 a.m. Thursday, firefighters responded to the Defiance, Missouri Post Office on Highway 94.
According to Chief Michael Scott of the Wentzville Fire Protection District, smoke was coming from a light fixture inside the building. When Augusta firefighters arrived on the scene, a light haze of smoke was visible inside the two-story frame structure.
The building was evacuated and no one was injured. The situation was quickly downgraded.
In addition to the Augusta Community Volunteer Fire Department and the Wentzville Fire Protection District, the New Melle Fire Protection District also responded.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
