Family Camping Expo around the corner

Enjoy a weekend of fun at Klondike Park’s Family Camping Expo on Sept. 12 and Sept. 13.
Participants will learn many aspects of camping, such as: setting up a campsite, knot tying, hiking, fire building, campfire cooking, mountain biking and more. For registered individuals, there will also be a family fishing derby complete with prizes, sponsored by Cabela’s.
The Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri will share telescopes so campers may enjoy gazing at the stars.
Guests are asked to bring: a tent, bedding, lunch on Saturday, drinks, a flashlight, personal fishing equipment and bug spray.
The cost to participate at the Family Camping Expo is $15 per person. Children four and under are free if accompanied by a paying adult. The program is limited to 75 participants and advanced registration is required before August 28.

Klondike Park is a 250-acre site located on 4600 Highway 94 South (between Defiance and Augusta) about 14 miles south of Highway 40. The amenity boasts several miles of hiking and biking trails, a fishing lake, picnic shelters, a boat ramp and access to the Katy Trail. It also offers six cabins, 41 tent sites (open for year-round camping), a shower house and a small kitchen (open from April to November).
