Wentzville, MO
Emergency responders arrived at Twin Oaks at Heritage Pointe in Wentzville at about 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 5. Appearing on the scene were Wentzville Police, Wentzville Fire Protection District, Wright City Fire Protection District, O’Fallon Fire Protection District, Lake Saint Louis Fire Protection District and St. Charles County Ambulance District.
This was a planned drill to test the Twin Oaks facility’s evacuation procedures. The event also provided an opportunity for emergency units to evaluate their responses in a real-life facility.
The first stage involved responding to a fire alarm. Two fire units were sent. Next, a theatrical smoke machine was used to fill a second-floor apartment with smoke. Upon discovery of smoke, a first alarm was sounded and three more trucks were sent.
The drill was estimated to last approximately 45 minutes.
“That is what it took,” stated Wentzville Fire Chief Randy Bornhop. He stated that everything went according to plan.
“I’m happy with it,” Bornhop said.
