Defiance teenager dies in crash on Highway D

A 16-year-old was killed in an accident on Highway D, west of New Melle, when her car collided head-on with a pick-up truck.
The Missouri Highway Patrol is reporting that at about 8:25 pm on Sunday, a 2006 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by the teenager traveled off the right side of the roadway west of Old Highway D. The driver overcorrected and crossed the center line of Highway D.
Her car struck the front end of a 2003 Ford F-250 driven by Phillip Mittler, 46, of Marthasville. Mittler received moderate injuries in the crash and was taken by ambulance to St. Johns Mercy in Washington. Two passengers in Mittler's truck has minor injuries. The driver of the Cavalier was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.
