Broemmelsiek Park is the place to be on Saturday, April 25.

Beginning at 9 a.m., community volunteers and forestry staff will plant tree and shrub seedlings to stop erosion and provide wildlife habitat. Volunteers will receive on-site training and equipment. To be part of this endeavor, join the gang in Shelter #2.

At 5 p.m., the Passport to St. Charles County Parks Walk event will offer discussions on the farming heritage and astronomy viewing area at Broemmelsiek. This group meets in Shelter #2. The walks are held monthly so residents may become more acquainted with the history, features and trails of the St. Charles County parks. Those participating in at least four the monthly walks will earn a park t-shirt.

The Stars of Spring astronomy viewing events kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night in the Astronomy Viewing Area at Broemmelsiek. The focus for this month will be on Saturn and Mercury. This is open to all ages and the viewing runs until about 11 p.m. Telescopes will be provided, but individuals may also bring their own equipment.

Broemmelsiek Park offers picnic areas, natural preserves, multi-use trails (for hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders), a dog park, and the Astronomy Viewing Site.

Directions: From Highway 40/61, head southwest on Highway DD (WingHaven Boulevard) for approximately five miles to Schwede Road. Turn right on Schwede Road to the park.
