Accident seriously injures driver

On Friday, Jan. 28 at about 2:55 p.m., Thomas R. Schmid, 20, of Portage de Sioux was driving a 2006 Ford F-150 north on Highway 94, south of State Route B.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol:
Shelly R. Newhart, 43, of St. Charles, was driving a 1997 Nissan Altima and attempted to enter the southbound lanes of Highway 94 from a private lot on the east side of the highway. The front of the F-150 struck the left side of the Altima. Both vehicles traveled off the west side of the road.
Schmid was seriously injured and was taken to St. John’s Mercy Hospital by St. Charles City EMS. Newhart suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital East by St. Charles City Ambulance.
