Witnesses catch alleged purse thief

On Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 at approximately 11:33 a.m., the O’Fallon Police Department responded to the 1900 block of Highway K in reference to a report of a stolen purse.
The victim, a 75-year-old O’Fallon resident, was walking into the front door of the business while the suspect was walking out of the business.
The suspect allegedly forcefully grabbed and removed the victim’s purse from her arm and ran out the door.
A witness caught up to the suspect in an adjacent parking lot while the suspect was attempting to conceal the purse under his clothing. The same witness retrieved the victim’s purse. Several other persons assisted in detaining the suspect until police arrived.
The suspect is identified as Michael James Suttles, a 25-year-old O’Fallon man.
The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued one count of Stealing from a Person, with a $10,000 bond.
