O'Fallon Police conduct LIDAR speed enforcement

The O’Fallon Police Department conducted a grant funded LIDAR speed enforcement detail on Monday, November 21st, 2011. The detail was conducted on eastbound Interstate 70 at the T.R. Hughes overpass.
During the LIDAR detail a total of 50 citations were issued, of which 37 were for speeding violations. During the 4 hour detail an officer was positioned on the T.R. Hughes overpass and was using a LIDAR to measure the speeds of the vehicles on eastbound Interstate 70. Once a violation was observed officers positioned further down eastbound I-70 conducted the traffic stop and issued the citations.
Funding for this effort was provided through a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Division in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Missouri Safety Center.
