Business Watch is designed to enhance community security through heightened awareness and open communication between police and businesses. The Business Watch Program helps build relationships between store owners and employees by watching out for one another. Businesses can establish a safer working and shopping atmosphere within and around their establishment. The program helps reduce crime such as shoplifting, theft, burglaries, purse snatching, drug dealing and vandalism.
Some activities of Business Watch include crime reporting and reporting of suspicious behavior. Specialized training for managers includes training in safety, theft and fraud. Educate businesses on new crime trends, identity theft, internal theft and bogus instruments. The program provides information on the business community for the Chief, Command Staff and City Administrator. In addition, the program would help coordinate crime prevention and investigative work with the Criminal Investigations Section. Business security surveys could also be completed at the businesses.
