Leak detection program underway this week

O’Fallon, MO
The City of O’Fallon ’s leak detection program to detect leaks in the City’s water mains got underway this week. The program is projected to be completed by August 1, 2011.
The firm authorized by the City to conduct the program, ADS Environmental Services, is currently checking water mains in right-of-ways in O’Fallon’s north side. Crews will continue to work south through the City until all areas have been surveyed. The equipment that crews are using is electronic, so it is not necessary to shut the water system down to check for leaks. If a leak is found and a repair is needed, notice will be given to the household(s) that are affected before the repair work is to begin.
“The personnel conducting the leak detection program are working out of a white pickup truck clearly marked with the name ADS Environmental Services,” said Dan Scherer, Director of the City’s Water and Sewer Division. “In addition, each of the individuals who are conducting the tests will wear yellow vests over their shirts and a City of O’Fallon photo ID badge identifying them as a City of O’Fallon contractor, and carry a letter explaining that they are performing leak detections for the City of O’Fallon .”
The program will help save the City money and help in keeping the City as a good steward of our natural resources, added Scherer,
Updates about the areas in which ADS Environmental will be working will be posted on the Water and Sewer Department’s webpage www.ofallon.mo.us/water. Residents also can follow the progress on Twitter.
