Heald Home heads for 2011

Coming up on selected Sundays at O’Fallon’s historic Heald Home in Fort Zumwalt Park , visitors can see collectible antiques displayed throughout the building, participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count, and attend a birthday party for Dr. Seuss.
The Heald Home is a two-story brick house erected circa 1886 by Darius Heald, and restored by the City of O’Fallon , Missouri , in 2001. The home is located in Fort Zumwalt Park at 1000 Jessup Drive , O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. Upcoming events include:
The “Eclectic Oddities” Exhibit – On Sunday, January 23, view Ollie Hibbeler’s entertaining “Three Wise Monkeys” collection (“See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil”). Mr. Hibbeler, an O’Fallon native, was an avid collector who belonged to several national clubs and the O’Fallon Historical Society. Enid Collins handbags from the 1950s will also be on display, courtesy of Ollie’s wife, Shirley Hibbeler. The home will be open for tours from 1 – 4 p.m.; cost is $2 per person.
The Great Backyard Bird Count – Be sure to bring your binoculars for this free, four-day series of events for both serious and amateur bird watchers. Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Party and Book Swap – One of Dr. Seuss’ most popular books, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, is the theme for the party, which will be held from 9:30 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5th. The event is geared to ages 4 – 9, and includes a story, craft- making, a game, snack and a book swap. To participate in the swap, bring books to the party to trade for other books. Cost of the party is $10 for O’Fallon residents and $12 for non-residents. Breweriana Exhibit – Not just for beer enthusiasts! On Sunday, April 10, visitors can see items from Ollie Hibbeler, Jr’s, extensive collection of brewery signs, bottle caps, cork screws, and bottle/can openers on display throughout the historic Heald Home. Vintage Fishing Lures and Fishing Gear Exhibit – Tour the Heald Home from 1 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, to see vintage fishing gear collected by O’Fallon native Olli Hibbeler on display throughout the house. Directions: On I-70, take Exit 217 at Highways K / M (Main Street) in O’Fallon, drive south on Highway K for one block to the stoplight at Veterans Memorial Parkway; turn right and then drive about one mile to the Fort Zumwalt Park entrance on the left.
