Free holiday light strand and Christmas tree recycling

O’Fallon, Missouri, residents are encouraged to recycle unwanted or broken holiday light strands by simply dropping them off at one of several locations. Currently, light strands can be deposited in receptacles at O’Fallon City Hall, 100 North Main Street, O’Fallon 63366, or at the Renaud Spirit Center, 2650 Tri Sports Circle, O’Fallon 63368.

Beginning December 26, strands also can be dropped off, along with live or natural Christmas trees (no ornaments, please), in parking lots at Civic Park and O’Fallon Sports Park. The drop-off service is free and will continue through January 17, 2011. Lots will be open dawn to dusk.

Guidelines for light strand recycling:

Guidelines for Christmas tree drop-off: Only live or natural trees without decorations will be accepted. Please remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights, string or wire. No wreaths, shrubs, plastic bags or yard waste should be dropped off.

For a $10 fee, residents who need curbside collection of Christmas trees can call 636-272-0477 to have their tree picked up in January. Only live or natural trees without decorations can be accepted.
