In July of 2010, eight members of the O’Fallon Police Explorer Post 2943 attended the National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference held at the Georgia Tech University. Two teams of four members competed against other Law Enforcement Explorer posts in various law enforcement situations they have been training for the past couple of years. The Explorers gained invaluable insight into the law enforcement profession by getting to interact with so many people on a federal level in law enforcement.

The National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference is held every two years at college campuses across the United States. The next conference is scheduled to be held in Fort Collins, Colorado in 2012.

The conference highlights the careers available in law enforcement and the explorers have a chance to interact with various federal law enforcement agencies including the U.S. Marshalls, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Immigration and Customs (ICE) and the Drug Enforcement Administration. During one of the team’s competitions the director of the Drug Enforcement Administration was a role player and personally instructed the team on their scenario.

“This is an experience most people don’t get to have to personally interact with someone who was appointed to their position by the President of the United States,” said O’Fallon Police Explorer Post Advisor Officer Joe Fomera.

Law Enforcement Exploring gives young high school aged people an opportunity to “Explore” a career in law enforcement while still in school. For more information on joining the O’Fallon Police Explorer Post, contact Officer Joe Fomera by e-mail at joefomera@ofallon.mo.us or visit www.ofallon.mo.us/pd/explorers.

An informational meeting is planned for September 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the Multi Purpose Room at the police department. To reserve your seat contact Officer Fomera.
