The Missouri State Highway Patrol has reported one fatality in Thursday morning’s crash on Interstate 70 near Bryan Road. Robert J. Wood, 51, of Wright City was pronounced at the scene.

The accident occurred at about 12:15 a.m. when Chad E. Frazer, 29, of O’Fallon, was driving a 1991 Ford Mustang eastbound in the center lane on Interstate 70. Frazer was driving at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass a tractor trailer by changing lanes on the right. Frazer struck the rear of a 1990 Mercury Topaz, driven by Wood, causing the Topaz to travel off the right side of the road. The Mustang traveled off the left side of the road, coming to rest against the median wall.

Frazer suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles by St. Charles County Ambulance.

Original story:

The eastbound lanes of I-70 in O’Fallon were shut down around 12:30 am  after a major accident just west of Bryan Road.

At least 2 cars appear to be involved in the accident. One car was against the median wall while a second car came to rest several feet off the roadway with severe rear end damage.

Police activity in the Thornbury neighborhood near Bryan Road seem to indicate they were looking for at least one suspect.

The highway was shut down at Lake Saint Louis Boulevard with traffic diverted onto Veteran’s Memorial Parkway.

Lake Saint Louis, O’Fallon and Wentzville Fire units responded to the accident, along with police from O’Fallon, Lake Saint Louis, St. Charles County and Missouri Highway patrol.
