Drivers in Lake Saint Louis, even the patient ones, are getting edgy about a particular traffic light.

The light at Henke Road and Lake Saint Louis Boulevard seems to favor Boulevard traffic. Motorists traveling on Henke Road wait long periods of time for their turns, often taking matters into their own hands. While turning left on a red light isn’t extreme renegade behavior, it is illegal.

Today, the light has been blinking yellow for Boulevard motorists and blinking red for Henke motorists.

What’s up with this stop light?

I called Lake Saint Louis City Administrator, Paul Markworth this morning about this situation.

“Sometimes the sun causes some problems,” he said. I gave him my theory about the wind possibly moving the sensor, thus not recognizing cars. He said he thought it was an “optics problem.”

The repair timetable for the stop light is unknown.

As this article was being written, about 2:45 p.m., an accident occurred at the Henke/Boulevard intersection. Public Works arrived at the accident scene at about 3:15 p.m.

Perhaps prioritizing a stoplight repair may now prove to be a good idea.
