Drivers in the habit of rolling through stop signs may find themselves in court in Lake Saint Louis. Chief Michael Force says his agency has spent a good deal of time analyzing traffic problems in the city and is taking action to address stop sign violations, which he says have become problematic.

“We have noticed and have had reports from residents that there are certain intersections where drivers routinely run stop signs. Sometimes we have to take actions that aren’t popular with some people, but we have to take a firm stance when public safety is at stake,” said Chief Force. “One citizen reported to us that when she stopped at a stop sign on Technology Drive and Technology Loop, the driver behind her pulled into the left turn lane to pass her vehicle and went straight through the intersection without even slowing down. This kind of behavior is dangerous and unacceptable.”

“Missouri law requires that motorists come to a full stop and look both ways to ensure safety before proceeding through the intersection where a stop sign is posted,” he continued. “I have instructed my officers to make enforcement at stop signs a priority in the coming months. We will focus on problem areas and on increasing general awareness. Nobody likes to get pulled over and issued a summons, but when a problem needs to be addressed, we do what is necessary to protect our residents. Safety on our roadways is part of all of our responsibilities. Let’s make sure we’re part of the solution; not part of the problem.”
