Lake Saint Louis
Money Magazine released their best places to live list of cities throughout the country, naming Lake Saint Louis, Missouri number nine (9) on this list. Magazine editors reviewed a number of statistics ranking cities based on job growth, income increases, cost of living, housing affordability, school quality, arts and leisure, safety, health care, diversity and ease of living criteria.
Mayor Mike Potter responded to the ranking saying, “It’s appropriate for the City to be named an all-star city with the major league baseball all-star game playing in St. Louis this week. Our city has so much to offer residents with the many recreational opportunities, the new shopping centers, and the large employment centers in and adjacent to Lake Saint Louis.”
Lake Saint Louis (estimated population of 14,000) was created forty years ago as a planned community centered around two lakes, a golf course and clubhouse facility. The larger lake (Lake Saint Louis) is a seven hundred acre lake with approximately nineteen (19) miles of shoreline. The smaller lake (Lake Saint Louise) is sixty-five (65) acres large. Over time, the community incorporated as a City which has grown outside the boundaries of the Lake Saint Louis Community Association. Lake Saint Louis Community Association members comprise approximately eighty percent (80%) of the residents in Lake Saint Louis.
The City also provides amenities for all residents. A new park opened this past year featuring a large children’s playground for children of all abilities. Zachary’s Playground in the Hawk Ridge Park is a very popular family park. The City also has an athletic complex, amphitheater and two (2) other parks. Ground for a fifth park has been secured and plans include incorporating that property into a trail system to access adjacent parks.
Money magazine cited the 34.48% job growth that has occurred in Lake Saint Louis between 2000 and 2008. SSM St. Joseph Hospital West is the largest employer within Lake Saint Louis. The Highway 40 “High-Tech” corridor in Lake Saint Louis and also St. Charles County also provide many jobs to the area.
