Highway Z accident claims life of Augusta man

A stretch of road which claimed the life of an Augusta man on Tuesday was also the scene of another accident just one day prior.

On Tuesday, April 28, at about 2:55 p.m., Arthur A. Brinkman, 75, of Augusta, was driving northbound on Highway Z, 200 feet south of Cedar Lane in a 2002 Dodge Ram.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road. Brinkman overcorrected and then traveled off the left side of the road. The front of the vehicle struck a tree. Brinkman was taken to St. Joseph Hospital West by St. Charles County Ambulance and was pronounced at 3:33 p.m.

On Monday, April 27 at about 1:15 p.m., Matthew L. Thebeau, 31, of St. Charles, was driving southbound on Highway Z, .2 miles south of Cedar Lane in a 2000 Toyota Solara. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle exited the right side of the road, struck a mailbox, began overturning and came to rest upright.

Meghan E. Thebeau, 37, of St. Charles was an occupant in the car. She sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital West by St. Charles County Ambulance.
