A conversation with Lake Saint Louis Police Chief Michael T. Force sheds light on Monday’s grenade finding.

According to Force, the grenade was found as auction representatives were preparing a home on Woodchuck Lane for sale. The auction employees called Lake Saint Louis Police. When Chief Force arrived, he determined the item to be an actual grenade and realized the St. Charles County Bomb Squad should be called.

The Bomb Squad arrived quickly and confirmed the item was authentic. The home was immediately searched to assure there were no more suspicious items, which there were not.

Woodchuck Lane was blocked off and immediate neighbors were notified. No one was hurt during the situation.

The procedure in a case like this is to take the suspicious item to a range and blow it up. Chief Force said that it is safer to detonate these types of items rather than attempt to take them apart. The item will then be disposed.

The owner of the home is currently in a nursing home and seems to be a collector of war memorabilia as a number of cannonballs, helmets and other wartime items were also found in the home.
