Greene’s Country Store; freshness aplenty

After noticing banners on Greene’s Country Store advertising fresh local produce, I decided to pop inside for a look.
What an attractive late-summer bounty display they have— peppers, tomatoes, apples, onions, cucumbers, green beans, potatoes, peaches and more, brimming proudly from their bins.
I took home some green beans to accompany our macaroni and cheese dinner, a half a dozen tomatoes for a spaghetti sauce experiment and one cucumber, just for the heck of it. The dried sunflower heads were resisted reluctantly (sorry, birds).
I was informed by the cashier that the produce is supplied from Missouri farms in Foley and Clarksville. This year is much better than last, flood-wise, he told me.
Even if you don’t rely on country living necessities, Greene’s is a fun place to browse. Last Christmas, I found many special gifts like bars of goat’s milk soap (made in Marthasville) and a suet-style bird feeder. A John Deere fan was on my Christmas list, so he got spoiled. Greene’s also offers toys, clothes, gardening supplies, pet items and home décor. There’s so much to see; and it’s not all about feed.
Greene’s Country Store can be reached at 636-561-6637 and is located at 8621 Highway N in Lake Saint Louis, near the National Equestrian Center.
Please remember to buy locally as often as possible.
