Watch for solar-powered cars
June 22, 2010
St. Charles County, MO
The American Solar Challenge race is currently traveling through Missouri. This is a competition to design, build and race solar-powered cars in a cross-country event. On June 20, the “rayce” began in Tulsa and will end 1,100 miles later in Chicago on June 27.
Three Missouri communities have been chosen as checkpoints during the week-long race: Neosho on June 20, Jefferson City on June 22 and Rolla on June 23. The race will re-start in Rolla on June 24. Race teams use checkpoints as locations to raise their cars’ solar panels and collect additional sun rays before heading out again.
Keep your eyes peeled this week. You may get glimpses of these “cars of the future” driving through Wentzville or on Veterans Memorial Parkway, Mexico Road, Spencer Road, Interstate 370, or Highway 94!
